We danced at the Grand Opening of 10000 Villages - www.tenthousandvillages.com/ - a non-profit organization that sells crafts made by "native artisans" who are paid a fair wage for their work. It was a lot of fun, but a long day. The whole group was there & we were able to dance together for the first time in quite a while. We helped the store out a lot by dancing in front & attracting customers to the store, so we were happy & so were they! :-)
My step forward was that I did a solo, which was mainly improv! AND I was comfortable doing it. Woo hoo! I have to say that taking Sara Beaman's classes www.sarabeaman.com/ helped me do it. I really love the ATS style of dance (her classes are NOT certified ATS - FYI) and though I have had the FCBD teaching DVD series it was not enough for me to learn it & feel comfortable. I needed a live teacher. I watched the FCBD Combos DVD several times & used some of those, but mainly I used the Arabic, Egyptian, & some maya/taxim moves taught by Sara. This is the only style that makes me feel really comfortable & able to do improv alone!
That's it, I just had to log that I finally did a solo & it wasn't horrible! The last one I did was about a year ago & it was horrible - crickets loud in the silence after I finished :-( I am so happy! I just feel like I took a major step forward today! Now, I have to stop looking down when I dance...
